The Elizabethton School Board will be tasked with finding a replacement for retiring board member Mike Wilson who will be stepping down due to personal reasons.

Wilson’s retirement will be formally recognized at the August 2023 school board meeting.
Elizabethton Director of Schools Richard VanHuss issued a statement in regards to Wilson’s departure.
“Mike Wilson has dedicated most of his professional life to the students and families in our community,” VanHuss said. “His time as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and board member demonstrates his commitment to Elizabethton City Schools.  I am thankful for his service and his friendship.  I wish him well as he enjoys his well-deserved retirement.”
According to VanHuss, the school board bylaws state that Wilson’s replacement will be named by the school board until his term expires at which time the position will be voted on by city residents.
