JOHNSON CITY – Holston Medical Group (HMG) welcomes primary care physician, Benjamin Moyer, DO, to HMG Primary & Specialty Care at 3019 Peoples St., Ste. 300., Johnson City.
Dr. Moyer was inspired to become a physician while growing up, watching his father, also a physician, care for people in his community. He enjoyed seeing the relationships his father had with his patients. One day while his father encouraged him into the medical field, Dr. Moyer said, “I felt a peace about it like God was calling me to serve others this way.”
With a focus on improving the lives of others, Dr. Moyer strongly believes in partnering with patients to help them achieve their health goals. “Everyone is unique and different,” says Dr. Moyer. “There is no ‘one size fits all’ regarding health care.”
Dr. Moyer wants his patients to feel like they are in control of their health and that he is there to guide them. Dr. Moyer can tailor a treatment plan to each patient by getting to know them individually.
Dr. Moyer enjoys general medicine, which makes family medicine a great fit for him. He specifically enjoys his role as a patient educator. He is trained in acupuncture techniques and the use of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), a set of hands-on techniques that a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) uses to diagnose and treat various illnesses.
“OMT is a great option for musculoskeletal conditions, but it can be used for many other conditions,” said Dr. Moyer. “It is a great addition to traditional health care because the side effects are few, and the benefits can be very significant.”
Dr. Moyer enjoys time with his wife and new daughter. They spend their family time in the great outdoors, on the pickleball courts, and cooking/baking together. In addition, Dr. Moyer enjoys good music, astronomy, photography, and barbecuing. His favorite meat to smoke is brisket.
Dr. Moyer received his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Eastern Washington University, Cheney, WA, and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Buies Creek, NC. He completed his family medicine residency at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City.
