Christopher Wayne Bennett, 49, pleaded guilty to aggravated rape in Washington County Criminal Court. He received a sentence of life without parole.
According to court records, Bennett committed a non-acquaintance abduction in broad daylight and subsequently committed the offense of aggravated rape of Brittany Casteel, who was 27 years old at the time of the offense. Defendant Bennett also abducted her infant child.
Mrs. Casteel gave her victim impact statement in open court Monday. She has been active in victim rights. Her cooperation was instrumental in the creation of the Branch House exam room designated at Ballad Health.
The Johnson City Police Dept., especially the criminal investigation division, was paramount in the quick apprehension and prosecution of Bennett.
