The Cyclones served as host Monday afternoon as all three teams tried to sharpen their games as Districts loom on the calendar. Two Cyclones Dalton Sharp and Maylie Stout walked away with the lowest scores in the boy’s and girl’s division. The meet was held at the Elizabethton Golf Course front nine.
For the boys, Sharpe shot a 2 over par, his day included draining a 40-foot chip shot on the 8th hole to save par. Colin Phillips hit a respectable 45, Justin Porch shot a 46, Gage Stout a 48, and Mac Paulson who has only been playing for a couple of months, recorded a 49 on the day. For the girls, Maylie Stout shot a 49, while Meg Dotson and Sophia McKeehan both recorded scores of 52, and Phoebe Holly finished the day at 53.
In the team competition, David Crockett High School took first place with Connor Tester and Griffin Cusick coming up with scores of 41, Elizabethton finished second with a score of 181, and West Ridge third with a score of 187. Over on the girl’s side both Elizabethton and West Ridge recorded the scores of their top two girls and tied with a score of 102, David Crockett only had one girl participate.
After the match, Cyclones Head Coach Zach Ensor talked about how his team has shown growth so far, “we are young but we are getting more experience and getting better every day. Everything in golf builds towards the District Tournament in September; our goal has to be to get better every time we come out here,” Ensor shared. The Cyclones will next travel to Tri-Cities Golf Course to take on Sullivan East and Tennessee High on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
