ETSU kicks off fall 2023 semester with Welcome Week

New and returning students enjoy music, games, prizes, free food and more
JOHNSON CITY – As the sun sets on summer and a new academic year begins, East Tennessee State University is gearing up to host its annual Welcome Week – a period designed to be an exciting start to the fall semester and welcome new and returning students to campus.
Welcome Week is set to take place from Sunday, Aug. 27, through Friday, Sept. 1. The goal of the week is to help students get settled on campus, participate in activities and events with new friends, learn about campus traditions and resources and get connected to the Buccaneer community.
Highlights of the week include a Block Party, Bucky’s Bash, Scoop on Faith and Service, ETSU Pride Community Showcase, Cultural Remix, Campus Roundup and so much more.

Sunday, Aug. 27
Block Party – 6-7 p.m. – Tri-Hall Field
Free food, giveaways and plenty of fun at one of the biggest kick-off events of the year.

Monday, Aug. 28
Welcome Week Bucky’s Back to School Bash – 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – University Commons
Enjoy s’mores, music and good vibes while getting to know various student organizations.

Tuesday, Aug. 29
Welcome Week: Scoop on Faith and Service – 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – University Commons
Grab a scoop of ice cream and learn about campus ministries and campus/community service organizations.
Campus Rec & SGA Pool Party – 6-8 p.m. – CPA Pool and Courtyard
Start the semester with a splash where you can take a dip in the pool and participate in fun water games. Stay dry in the courtyard and enjoy a DJ, photo booth, free food, giveaways and prizes.

Wednesday, Aug. 30
ETSU PRIDE Community Showcase – 9 a.m.-1 p.m. – Borchuck Plaza
Get to know local businesses at this event, sponsored by the ETSU National Alumni Association and the Johnson City-Jonesborough-Washington County Chamber of Commerce.
Welcome Week 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament – 5-7 p.m. – CPA Court 1
Think you’ve got what it takes? Come out to the CPA with two or three friends and prove it.

Thursday, Aug. 31
Welcome Week Cultural Remix – 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – University Commons
An introduction to ETSU’s multicultural student organizations and special interest groups with live music, activities and food.
PartyBucs: Buc Block – 7-11 p.m. – 918 W. Maple St.
This mini music festival is one of ETSU’s newest, and most exciting, Welcome Week events.

Friday, Sept. 1
Welcome Week Campus Roundup – 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – University Commons
Saddle up to meet various organizations, departments and offices across ETSU’s campus.
Welcome Week Campus Campout – 5 p.m.-10 a.m. – CPA – Basler Challenge Course
Conclude Welcome Week with a camping adventure under the stars.
