The TA Dugger girls’ soccer team showed up and showed out in dominant fashion against the Colonial Heights Huskies Wednesday night in a game that wasn’t as close as the score indicated. Just a minute and half into the game, Wing Sydnie Brock took an outlet pass and dribbled 20 yards up the field before blasting a shot to the left-hand side of the goal for an early 1-0 Cyclones lead. Two minutes later, Sabrah Smith pounded the ball 25 yards out for another goal to make it 2-0. But the Jr. Lady Cyclones weren’t done as Vella Nave chipped in two more goals and Sydnie Brocks hit a rope past a diving goalie to make it a 5-0 advantage for the Jr. Cyclones. If it wasn’t the Jr. Lady Cyclones striking goals in the back of their net, their defense absolutely smothered the Huskies, preventing them from spending any real time on their half of the field.
At 16:00, Cyclone Coaches Samantha Husbands and Bella Cranford emptied their benches to allow their 7th and 6th graders to get some quality minutes. The starters would come back in the second half but only play sparingly as Sydnie Brock would pick up another goal to push the lead to 6-0. The Jr Cyclones would play keep away for a good portion of the final 15 minutes to preserve the 6-0 lead. The Jr Lady Cyclones would have a huge advantage in every offensive category, including shots on goal, corner kicks and time of possession.
Vella Nave would end the night with the hat trick and Sydnie Brock would finish with two goals of her own to lead the offensive surge. The game very well could be remembered for the accurate passing the Jr. Lady Cyclones displayed and how well they communicated throughout. Coach Husbands was quick to brag about her defense in the match: “Our defensive line and goalkeeper Adalyn Taylor did a great job tonight; players like Aubry Szabo, Heather Meier and Sabrah Smith have stepped up for us in the defensive third, which has allowed us to have the success in scoring and winning game like this,” Husbands shared. The Jr. Lady Cyclones will travel to Church Hill on Thursday night with a start time of 6 pm.
