The old cliche about how “it doesn’t matter how you start, it’s about how you finish” has no better place to be used than in the sport of football.
It manifested itself once again on Monday evening at Citizens Bank Stadium as the Elizabethton JV played host to the Dobyns-Bennett Indian JV team.
The Cyclones came out hotter than a pistol going up 14-0 early in the second quarter before the Indians responded with 32 straight points to defeat the Cyclones by a 32-20 score.
Will McDuffie was the workhorse in the first two scores for Elizabethton as he had touchdown runs of eight and one yard to stake the Cyclones to the early lead. Logan Dillow connected on both of his point-after attempts to account for the 14 points scored.
McDuffie’s score came at the 9:55 mark of the first quarter and from that point, it was all Indians as the visitors capped off their comeback by taking a fumble on a scoop and score kickoff with no time on the first half clock to take the lead for good at 18-14.
The Cyclones added their final score in the waning moments of the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Jaxon Price connected with McDuffie on a 10-yard scoring toss. Dillow’s kick this time was wide of the mark and the game had its final score of 32-20.
