The keys to Nancy’s Restaurant, a beloved landmark since its opening in 1978, were about to change hands. Nancy Markland, the restaurant’s founder and heart and soul for over four decades, was ready to pass the torch to the new owners, Tommy and Jamelle Shingleton. The couple was eager to embark on this exciting new adventure.
Tommy Shingleton, a former Hampton Bulldog who had once graced the basketball courts under the tutelage of Coach Jerry White, was ready for a new challenge. He had always admired Nancy’s Restaurant and its rich history, making it a dream come true to take over this iconic establishment.
“We’re keeping all her staff,” Jamelle announced, a warm smile on her face, “and her menu will remain the same.”
Indeed, the Shingletons were committed to preserving the restaurant’s legacy. Nancy’s recipes, passed down through generations, would continue to grace the plates of loyal patrons, ensuring that the familiar flavors and aromas remained unchanged.
“The hours will stay the same,” Jamelle added, “open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.”
As Nancy Markland retired from her role after 45-plus years in the food service industry, the Shingletons expressed their excitement and determination to maintain Nancy’s Restaurant’s well-earned reputation. They hoped to retain the loyal customers who had made this place their second home and welcome new faces through the restaurant’s inviting doors.
Nancy’s Restaurant had always been a place where patrons could enjoy three hearty meals a day, each served with a generous helping of nostalgia. The daily specials, a tradition as old as the restaurant itself, would continue to surprise and delight customers with unique culinary creations.
With the passing of the keys, Nancy’s Restaurant entered a new chapter in its storied history. Under Tommy and Jamelle Shingleton’s ownership, it remains a haven for those seeking delicious food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The legacy of Nancy’s would continue to thrive, with the Shingletons preserving the traditions and flavors that have made this restaurant an enduring local treasure.
