The Cedar Grove Foundation will offer to the public the rare opportunity to bid on one of only two baseball bats autographed by the last two remaining baseball players for the Elizabethton Blue Grays.
The Blue Grays was the Tri-City’s only independent semi-pro Negro baseball team that traveled throughout the Southwest between 1935 and 1955. The team was comprised of young men from Elizabethton, Kingsport, Greeneville, Virginia and Middle Tennessee.
The Foundation has already received prior auction bids before the actual silent auction fundraiser for a young mother and daughter. Bids will continue to be taken during the actual event, which will be held today, Sept. 16, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at the Jonesborough Public Library.
Only serious bids will be accepted for this rare piece of baseball memorabilia.
