Robert “Rob” Markland, 68, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was the son of the late Gurney and Ivalee Hill Markland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Markland; sisters, Jean Lyons, Lisa Wilson, Faye Campbell and Brenda Mayse; brothers, Billy Markland, Ross Markland, Eddie Markland, Herman Markland and William Markland.
Rob worked for himself as an independent contractor doing odd jobs as they came. He loved being outdoors, and going fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Mary Parlier, Shatona Mann and Kelly Reece; brother, James Markland; special brother-in-law, Jack Wilson; and special sister-in-law, Elsie Evans. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members also survive.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. Friday, September 22, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home.
The graveside service and committal will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 23, in the Moreland Cemetery, Roan Mountain, with Mr. Joe Ledford officiating. Active pallbearers are Sonny Parlier, Thomas Parlier, Terry Mann, Juan Mann, Bobby Gordon and Scottie Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are David Parlier, Sonny Parlier, Jack Wilson, Charlie McNeal and Jacob Parlier. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
