George Roger Stevenson, 79, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born October 17, 1943 in Elizabethton to the late Buster and Belle Mae Guinn Stevenson.
George was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and had served in the Tennessee National Guard. He was a self-employed home builder. He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church where he was teacher of the Fellowship Hall Sunday School Class for 14 years.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce Fair Stevenson; one son, Doug (Cindy) Stevenson, Elizabethton; one daughter, Paige (Brad) Sproles, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Tessa (Colby) Edds and Caitlyn Gardner; and his brother-in-law, Tommy (Debbie) Fair, Elizabethton.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 23, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mark Grubb officiating. The entombment service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 24, in the Mausoleum of Faith at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, will be Doug Stevenson, John Colbaugh, Keith Morley, Jerry Proffitt, Alan Scalf, Tim Pierce and Brad Sproles. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class, his church family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 211 Center Park Drive, Suite 3010, Knoxville, TN 37922. The family would like to express a special thank you to the ICU Cardiac Unit of Johnson City Medical Center for the support given to them.
