Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Donald G. Grant, 76, of the Walnut Mountain Community in Roan Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at his home with his family by his side. Don was born on December 8, 1946 in Carter County, Tenn., to the late William Blaine Grant and Lelia Besada Potter Grant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Grant, and a sister, Mamey Grant.
Don had been employed with Aspen Tree Service and was of the Christian faith. He was quite a jokester who loved to cut up and aggravate anyone that he could get a smile out of. He was very caring and willing to help anyone who needed a hand. He loved his children and grandchildren and was a wonderful friend who was also honest, loyal and compassionate. Don enjoyed ginseng hunting, hiking, and hunting with his beloved hound dogs. He also liked listening to music of all kinds but most of all, Don was a family man and truly loved more than anything to spend time with his family.
Those left to cherish and remember Don include his wife, Linda Grant, of the home; his children, Donnie Grant, Dayton Grant and Jason Grant, all of Roan Mountain, Georgia Taylor of Sevierville, Randall Taylor of Roan Mountain, Melissa Manley of Union County, Tommy (Cindy) Taylor of Mascott, and Peggy Taylor and Gary Hughes of Hampton; two sisters, Barbara Harmon of Hickory, N.C., and Peggy Pippin of Columbus; and a brother, John Grant of Butler. Several other extended family and many, many friends also survive.
A service to celebrate Don’s life will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, October 2, in the Tetrick Funeral Home-Rhododendron Chapel of Roan Mountain, with Rev. Randy English officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 4 until 6 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Larry Glover will serve as honorary pallbearer. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday. The family would like to thank Larry Oakes and his children for being there during this difficult time and also Ralph and Helen Potter for their friendship and help.
