Peggy June Hall Potter, 79, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2023, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Peggy was born July 8, 1944 in Mitchell County, N.C., to the late Alonzo Hall and Lois Hall McNeil. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Albert “Pete” Potter; her sister, Magdalene Young; and brother, Phil Hall.
Peggy was a 1962 graduate of Bowman High School, Bakersville, N.C., and a graduate of Banner Elk Licensed Practical Nursing (L.P.N.) School in 1963. She retired from the James H. Quillen, Mountain Home VA Medical Center after 32 years of service as a L.P.N. She loved taking care of her Veterans.
Peggy loved her church and church family at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist, and she loved her Pastors, Randy Johnson and Mark Potter.
Those left to cherish Peggy’s memory include her son, Michael E. Potter (Lydia) of San Diego, Calif., and her twin daughters, Melisia Potter and Melinda Gentry (Curtis) of Elizabethton. Peggy was “Mammaw” to her granddaughters, Chelsie Harding (Ric) of Elizabethton, McKalah Eze of Murfreesboro, Samantha and Maheleah Potter of San Diego, her grandson, Gavin Potter (Shayla) of Elizabethton, great-granddaughters, Amelia Heaton and Kya Harding, and great-grandsons, Emerson Eze and Draven Harding.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Friday, October 13, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton, Tenn. The service will begin at 12 p.m. with her Pastors, Randy Johnson and Mark Potter, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gina Johnson.
The graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the VA Mountain Home Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery (Historic Section) at 1:45 p.m. Friday. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m., are Tim Andrews, Terry Pope, Jim Carr, Gavin Potter, Draven Harding and Carl Roberson. The family would like to extend special gratitude and thanks to Tim Andrews, Lisa Jones, Kristi Allen, Alexis Allen, Chelcie Ricker, Jonathan Greenlee, Kristy Roberts, Terry Pope, Autumn Hyder, Patrick LaPage, Judy and Victor Deloach and all her Ivy Hall Nursing Home family for providing amazing care for Peggy over the past 11 years.
