The Cherokee National Forest is scheduled to close the Watauga Ranger District Office in Unicoi to the public beginning Oct. 16 for renovations. The public is encouraged to use online services or coordinate ahead of time for passes and permits until the office is open to the public again.

Located at 4400 Unicoi Drive, the Watauga Ranger District Office provides management and walk-in services to the public for the most northern portion of the Cherokee National Forest. Renovations to the building will improve services to visitors and reduce operating costs.

Forest Service employees will not be on site during the construction so visitors needing in-person services should consider an appointment. Appointments will be available weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for passes and permit purchases. The office is scheduled to reopen in March for regular public services.
