Patton “Pop” Buchanan, 78, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. Patton was born in Buladean, N.C., a son of the late Stokes Buchanan and Ruth (Yelton) Palmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy (Livesay) Buchanan, in 2006.
Patton worked in construction as a bridge builder and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed working outside – mowing, gardening, cutting wood and anything else outdoors! He also liked attending the Happy Valley Warrior football games.
Those left to cherish Patton’s memory include his son, Sam Buchanan and wife Julie of Johnson City; his special grandchildren and the light of his life, Hunter Buchanan and wife Amanda and Sadie Ramsey and husband Jarrett, both of Elizabethton; his great-grandson on the way; a brother, Melvin Buchanan of Elizabethton; and two sisters, June “Blossom” Thomas of Burnsville, N.C., and Kay “Kiser” Burg of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Patton “Pop” Buchanan will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 26, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Greg Largent officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Thursday.
