There is tremendous diversity among humanity

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Dear Rev. Graham: What does it mean when the Bible says that God fashioned the hearts of people alike, when there is so much division? Is there hope for turning things around before the end of the world comes? – H.D.

Dear H.D.: There is tremendous diversity among humanity: linguistically, culturally, racially. We are a neighborhood without being a brotherhood. Yet there is one area that is the same – all people are sinners in need of a Savior.
Our deep needs are identical the world over, for they come from within. It may sound a bit intolerant and narrow, but Jesus said that the gate to the kingdom of Heaven is narrow. People who are bothered by this truth do not comprehend that there is a narrowness in mathematics and in chemistry. And aren’t we relieved that pilots are not so broad-minded that they come into an airport any way that they want? Why then should we not be narrow when it comes to moral laws and spiritual dimensions?
Many intellectuals are asking where history is going; they are speculating on what the end will be. Christ’s prayer is, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven.” This prayer so often recited is going to be answered. When the human race stands at the edge of the abyss, ready to blow itself apart, God will fulfill the last chapter of history. But it will be God’s kingdom and will come in God’s way.
This is why a Christian can be optimistic. This is why a Christian can smile in the midst of all that is happening. We know what the end will be: the triumph of the Lord Jesus Christ (see Isaiah 30:8).
