Despite a slight chill in the air for Halloween 2023, hundreds of excited children, along with their parents and guardians, showed up in downtown Elizabethton on Tuesday looking to get some tasty treats as Main Street Elizabethton hosted the Downtown Trick or Treating event.

The event was supposed to begin at 3:30 p.m. but many got the early jump by holding out their bags and pumpkins as local merchants and clubs were glad to toss in pieces of candy and other treats.

As has been the case in the past, the lines remained long as many started on one side of the street before crossing over and making the return trip back to their original beginning.

Many parents enjoy using the event to allow their children to receive candy from familiar faces that do business downtown rather than going to unknown houses during the evening hour as they receive an ample supply of treats to enjoy.
