CLINTON – Elizabethton’s hopes of returning back to the state championship stage came to an abrupt end on Friday in Clinton as the defending Class 4-A champs Anderson County frustrated the visiting Cyclones in the red zone on at least three different occasions to capture a 21-7 victory to advance to the third round of the playoffs next week at Greeneville.
The Cyclones played with a grittiness as they continued to press the issue to get the ball across the goal line but just couldn’t find the right play calling to capitalize with one opportunity ending on the one-foot line on fourth down.
