Retired Msg Sgt. Billy Mack Roberts, U.S. Army, 78, of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, from this present world to a new life in Heaven. He was born in Sullivan County to the late Brady and Juanita Roberts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jo Waller, and brother, Arvil Roberts.
Billy was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a National Guard Recruiter for many years before being promoted to Master Sergeant Recruiting Supervisor in Northeast Tennessee until his retirement. He enjoyed coaching little leagues basketball and baseball and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. He was of the Protestant faith. Billy will be sorely missed by all the people who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Ann Sizemore Roberts, of the home; two sons, Jamey Roberts and wife Julz and Mark Roberts of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Grace Ann Roberts and Jacob Samuel Roberts of Elizabethton; sister, Vickie Roberts Clifton of Johnson City; brother, Jack Roberts of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 17, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Pete Booher officiating and Amanda Henry, soloist. Military Honors to be accorded by Veterans Honor Guard DAV#39. Pallbearers are Jacob Roberts, Ansley Roberts, Bobby Clifton, Kit Crawford, Jackie Tipton and Isaac Lewis. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Sizemore and Dan Britt. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Friday.
