Sylvester Young, 83, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Sylvester was born in Carter County to the late John Franklin Young and Idella Gardner Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Young, Robert Young and Leon Young; one sister, Johnnie Weaver; and a nephew, Allen Young.
Sylvester worked in the construction industry and attended St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish Sylvester’s memory include his nieces and nephews, Kenneth Young of Johnson City, John Young and Angela (Kerry) Blair, all of Elizabethton, Jakki Young and Richard Potter, both of New York; his great-nieces, Ashley Young and Melanie Young; his great-nephew, Jordan Young; his great-great-nephew, Tavian Norwood; and his great-great-nieces, Ka’Leah Young and Ma’Lasia Young.
A service to celebrate Sylvester’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 18, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Rev. Leann Miller, Rev. Ernest Widby and Rev. Christine Scurry officiating. Music will be under the direction of Loretta Bowers. The family will receive friends between the hours of 1 and 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Gardner Cemetery (Arney Street, Elizabethton). Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice and Life Care of Elizabethton for the love and care given to Sylvester during his illness.
