The TA Dugger Junior High School Cyclone girls swim team has already broken every school record with three weeks remaining in their season.  The Cyclones hosted Johnson City Middle Schools last Tuesday evening at the Elizabethton High School pool.  They then traveled to the Kingsport Aquatic Center along with the Elizabethton High School swim team on Thursday evening for the Steve Wilmoth Speed Invitational hosted by Hawkins County, where they competed with 10 other high school and middle school teams. A select seven of the Junior Cyclone swimmers returned to KAC on Saturday to then compete in the 13th annual Pentathlon hosted by Dobyns-Bennett.

Highlighting the week was the girls team win over Johnson City Middle Schools in their dual meet on Tuesday and then finishing Thursday’s invitational in a tying win with JCMS. Throughout the course of the week, eight of the eleven events on the record board resulted in new school records. The remaining three had already been broken the week before in their meet against Hawkins County Middle Schools.  Louis Trivette began the string of broken records by breaking the boys 100 Freestyle record with a time of 1:10.62. Trinity Hopwood is credited with breaking five of the girls’ school records: the 50, 100 and 200 Freestyle, the 50 Breaststroke and 100 Individual Medley.  She also shares new school records in the 100 Medley and 200 Freestyle relays with teammates Ell Nekvasil, who also owns the 50 backstroke record, Molly Laney, who broke her own 50 Butterfly record this season, and Alayna Holt.  Adalynn Reece broke her own 25 Freestyle record by one-hundredth of a second with a time of 14.85.  She also shares the new school record in the 100 Freestyle relay with fellow teammates Evy Nekvasil, Anna Hill and Gracie Trivette.

The Pentathlon requires that each swimmer compete in five events. Each of the twenty-one middle school competitors had to complete the 50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 50 Freestyle and 100 Individual Medley.  Their combined times were then calculated to determine their placement.  On the girl’s side, Trinity Hopwood won with a combined time of 3:30.64, Ell Nekvasil placed third with a time of 3:36.87, sister Evy Nekvasil finished fifth at 3:47.24, Alayna Holt placed seventh at 3:50.71, and Gracie Trivette finished tenth in a time of 4:18.82.  Louis Trivette, the only boy to take on the challenge, placed third with a time of 4:20.97.

They will travel to Tennessee High School on Monday, November 27th, to face Tennessee Middle School in their final dual meet of the season. The meet starts at 6:00 pm.  The season concludes with the Middle School Championship on Saturday, December 2nd at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
