Wayne Paul Gilbert, 81, of Oklahoma City, Okla., passed away on November 16, 2023, in Oklahoma City. He was born on April 8, 1942, in Newark, N.J., to Raymond and Helen (Osborn) Gilbert.

Wayne was a medical specialist in the United States Air Force. He married Patricia “Bobbi” Casey on October 27, 1961, at Loring Air Force Base in Caribou, Maine. Wayne went to medical school at the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1979. He enjoyed working in Emergency Medicine and retired in 2013. Wayne was licensed in nine states including Tennessee where he lived for 25 years. He and Pat had recently moved back to Oklahoma to be near family. Wayne enjoyed flying and taking care of his lamas and angora goats. He was also a certified Naturalist.

Survivors include his wife Pat; his stepmother Emma Gilbert; daughter Patti Gilbert-McLaughlin and husband Andy of Guthrie; son Andy Gilbert and wife Michelle of Yukon; son Michael Gilbert of Muskogee; foster son Wilford Hackner and wife Denzi of Washington D.C.; two brothers, Raymond Gilbert and wife Jerri of Nutley, N.J., and Phillip Gilbert of Lincoln Park, N.J.; three sisters, Paula Gilbert of Wellington, N.J., Lisa Resciniti and husband John of Nutley, N.J., and Judy Cope of Kingsport, Tenn. He is also survived by six grandchildren Josh, Lindsey, Justin, Nicoli, Jessica and Harrison; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of his fur babies.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Helen Gilbert, and stepfather, Oliver McKeeby.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, at Remnant Church in Guthrie with Daniel P. Clark officiating. Interment followed at Summit View Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday from noon until 7 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 until 7 p.m.

Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
