Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency (UETHDA) is encouraging low-income households to apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) ahead of higher winter utility bills.
For those who qualify, a payment is sent directly to the recipient’s utility company and is credited to their bill. Payments can take up to 90 days to be applied. The LIHEAP program is designed to assist people with energy costs including electric, wood, coal, oil, gas, LP gas, and kerosene. Those who qualify for LIHEAP may also qualify for the Low-Income Water Assistance Program (LIWAP). Persons interested in applying should visit their Neighborhood Service Center or call 423-246-6180.
