Although Christmas has been in the air since early November with Christmas Open House and the Lighting of the Fraser Fir, the big event will be Saturday when the annual Christmas parade will be held downtown at 6 p.m.
This year, the parade promises to dazzle with the theme “Seasons of Lights.” Adding to the festive magic, Main Street has selected The City of Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department as the Grand Marshal. Courtney Bean, Main Street Director, shares her enthusiasm: “The holidays bring a touch of magic to downtown. From the twinkle of lights to the warmth of holiday cheer, Christmas is a special time for Elizabethton. We are thrilled to honor the Parks and Recreation Department for the light they bring to our community through family-friendly events and accessible outdoor spaces.”
Participants are encouraged to let their creativity shine as they decorate floats that embody the theme’s essence: the joy of lights. The more twinkling lights and light-up accessories, the merrier.
And, of course, the main attraction will be Santa Claus, who will be riding atop a firetruck.
Performing in the parade will be the award-winning Elizabethton High School Band, the T.A. Dugger Junior High School Band, bands from the county high schools, and the Elizabethton Shriners Band. There will also be a number of floats representing area churches, clubs, and various organizations. Local fire departments will also be represented.
Also, prior to the parade the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club will have its 7th Annual Chili Supper from 4 to 6 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Elizabethton.
The church is located at 513 Hattie Ave. Tickets are $6.
