The Elizabethton High School Cheerleading Team recently traveled to Sevierville for the UCA-sponsored Smoky Mountain Championship, held at the Sevier County Convention Center, where they competed against a large number of other teams from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. When all was said and done, they walked away with a very respectable 4th place showing. The team performed in the traditional category, which showcases cheer, tumbling, dance, and stunt sequences.
Cheerleading plays a crucial role in supporting and uplifting both the team and the fan base. That support extends out to the community as well. Head Cheer Coach Victoria Nanney spoke to the hard work her team has put in this season. “There were some amazing teams at this competition, but the hard work and dedication this team has put in really showed. We have had to overcome injuries and last-minute changes, but it’s a testament to this team’s hard work, commitment, and resilience,” Nanney shared.
Nanney also spoke to what she feels has been this team’s purpose. “Not only has this team honed their physical skills, but also they have developed life skills. These experiences will contribute to their personal growth in unique and amazing ways. Values like teamwork, perseverance, and discipline are valuable in various aspects of life,” Nanney explained.
