A new Five Below discount store aimed at “teens and tweens and beyond” is taking shape in Elizabethton.
Signs were recently placed declaring that Five Below would open soon at the Carter County Plaza near the intersection of West Elk Avenue and Bemberg Road. The shopping center also features an Ingles grocery store, the Burke’s Outlet and Petsense.
The approximately 14,000-square-foot store will fill the spaces previously occupied by Anytime Fitness and Hibbett Sports.
Five Below, which currently has stores in Bristol, Johnson City and Kingsport, “is a leading high-growth value retailer offering trend-right, high-quality products loved by tweens, teens and beyond,” according to the company’s website.
Most items in the store are priced between $1 and $5, and some extreme value items priced beyond $5. Five Below merchandise is separated into designated “worlds,” including Style, Room, Sports, Tech, Create, Party, Candy, and New & Now, according to its website.
Founded in 2002 by Tom Vellios and David Schlessinger and headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa., Five Below today has over 1,500 stores in 43 states.
Nationally, Five Below employs roughly 22,000 workers, of which 6,500 are full time.
Five Below will open its new Elizabethton store in spring of 2024, according to signs at the location. The store is now hiring at fivebelow.com.
Other Five Below stores in the Tri-Cities area are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
