Cloudland dominates Lady Rangers

The Lady Highlanders secured a decisive 59-24 conference victory over the Lady Rangers on Friday night at Snavely Gymnasium, propelled by a swift start. The Cloudland ran off the first 16 points of the game before Unaka got a bucket from post Keyona Hague to make it an 18-2 game after one period. The Lady Highlanders raced to a 29-6 halftime advantage with Ryan Turbyfill scoring all 11 of her game-high points in the first half.

Turbyfill dropped in three treys as the ‘Landers built a huge lead.

“Defensively, we came out and did what we had to do,” Lady Highlanders head coach Matt Birchfield said. “We flattened out a little bit in the second quarter but we played a lot of kids and got good minutes from all of them. We stretched out our lead in the third period and got some good buckets.”

Cloudland got points from 11 of 12 players that saw playing time with Izabella Christman scoring eight points and taking down seven rebounds, while Bethany Sluder and Saharra McKinney each added six points.

For Unaka, Haley Taylor had seven points with Alisha Harrell scoring six.
