For a second morning, Mountain Electric Cooperative customers in the Roan Mountain area awakened to weather-related power outages,
About 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, the cooperative posted on its Facebook page, “MEC is aware of the outages in the Tiger Creek and Walnut Mountain communities. Please avoid the area, if possible, as there are downed power lines. Thank you for your patience.”
Lines were also reported to have been downed and lying across Ripshin Mountain Road, about 0.9 mile from US 19E.
Power was at least partially restored in the Ripshin community by 2 p.m.
The Tiger Creek/Ripshin Mountain Road area was without power from early Tuesday morning until around 11 p.m. The cooperative posted that the outages in Roan Mountain and Newland, NC, were due to broken poles that were in areas “that are not easily accessible, which does slow down restoration efforts.”
