Several events are scheduled on the campus of East Tennessee State University and throughout the community to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Day of Service
Monday, January 15
While the university is closed on Monday, Jan. 15, the ETSU Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center staff and students will gather for a Day of Service at Carver Recreation Center in Johnson City from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Collaborating with local schools, community centers, leaders, and agencies, join the “Beloved Community: Persevering in Love” activities, community services, Unity Walk, storytelling and celebration of King’s birthday.
MLK Legacy Program
Tuesday, January 16
The ETSU Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center will commemorate events of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a special program from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the ETSU Foundation Carillon and Alumni Plaza. Later, there will be a cake-cutting celebration at 1:30 p.m. on the first floor of the D.P. Culp Student Center.
King’s Beloved Community
Tuesday, January 16
The Multicultural Center invites the community to a Commemoration of “King’s Beloved Community” from 6-7:30 p.m. in the East Tennessee Room, located in ETSU’s D.P. Culp Student Center.
