Mrs. Carolyn “Cat” Polly Pritchard Tipton, 81, a native of Roan Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital. Carolyn was born in Johnson City, Tenn., to the late Hobert William “Hobbie” Pritchard and Oline Anne McKinney Pritchard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Jack Tipton, on February 2, 2017; a son, Martin Tipton; a brother, Samuel “Terry” Pritchard; and a sister, Gail June Burleson.
Carolyn had worked as a hairdresser and was a member of First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain. Although her greatest joy was being a homemaker and housewife to her beloved family. She loved having all the kids in the community gather at her home. She was a loving mother and grandmother to any child that needed one throughout the Roan Mountain community. Carolyn loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens, sewing, big snowstorms, bon fires, camping, bird watching and baking tiny cheesecakes and sourdough bread.
Those left to remember and cherish Carolyn’s memory include her brother, Rod Gary Pritchard and wife Lisa; son, Ryan Tipton and wife Michelle of Roan Mountain; known as Granny Cat to her grandkids, Michael James Tipton, Matthew Martin Tipton, Marina Tipton, Lillian Noel Tipton, Mackenzie Tipton, Luke Tipton and Haley Tipton; and five great-grandchildren, Waylon, Rayna, Kyrin, Keylon and Briar. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 25, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Geren Street officiating.
