How much do we need God?

It is likely that some of the most faithful and dedicated Christians give little or no thought to just how much they need God on a daily basis. Have you ever considered how much you need God? I have no doubt that if asked, most of us would quickly confirm that we need God every step of the way throughout each day of our lives. The problem is that most people do not demonstrate their need of God every day; this is because we get caught up in our own daily routines. And at times we are left wondering if we even thought of God throughout the day. The truth is that each of us really need God every day of our lives.
If we asked a single mother who has no money, no job, no real skills and perhaps she is pregnant again if she needs God, what would she say. She would probably say yes because she realizes she has lost her youthful and beautiful looks and there are few if any who would seek her out as a wife at her age and with children. She would probably say yes realizing that she exists on the meager help she gets from the government and other agencies.
If we asked a man that is in his late 60s, who has given a company the best years of his life with dedicated service who has just been let go by the company if he needed God, he would probably say yes. He still has a life and family to maintain. A car payment, a house payment, and all the responsibilities that come with being a husband. Perhaps as a parent he has children in college and the tuition must be paid. That man would likely say he needs God in his life.
What about the person whose doctor has just given them the diagnosis of cancer. The questions suddenly arise in their mind, what are my prospects for living, what can be done to help me, is the prognosis good or bad, did we find it early enough to stop it, will I die. The doctor makes no promises but says they will do all they can do. There is no doubt that this is a time of terror and fear because the future is now unclear. Perhaps she has a husband and children and many family members that depend upon her. If we asked this person about their need for God, they would probably say they need Him.
What about the depressed who feel they are all alone in the world. What about those addicted to alcohol and other drugs and can’t find a way to overcome their addiction. What about the hundreds of other situations that people face daily. Most, if asked, would say they need God.
The truth is we really do need God! We need him every day of our lives and we need Him in every aspect of our lives. Many only seek God when things go awry, but in truth we always need him. As Christians we should certainly seek to walk with God when we are walking on the mountain. We should do this to help prepare and strengthen us for the times when we are in the valleys of life. We don’t just need God when things go bad, we need Him at all times. Walking with God when we feel the strength, happiness, health of youth is needed so that when we face the difficult times of life we can do so in strength. No one, especially Christians, should take God for granted. We should always look to Him for strength and direction every day. We should do so thanking Him for all of His blessings. We should thank Him both verbally and by living our lives in such a way that we use those blessings in His service and to His glory.
