Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Marguerite (Babe) Harris, 82, of the St Clair Community, was called to her heavenly home on February 25, 2024. She was a housewife and worked on a farm most of her life, raising two daughters and helping to raise two grandsons as well as helping with her younger siblings as she was growing up. She was a giving and selfless Child of God who loved everyone and always put the needs of others before her own. She was very talented with her hands.

She could draw and paint most anything she wanted to. She was an avid gardener with a green thumb who loved nature, gardening and working in her flowers. She spent the last few years proudly taking care of her husband. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and attended with her husband as long as his health permitted.

Marguerite is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jimmie A Harris of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia “Cyndi” Ayres (Jeffery Ricker) of Mosheim, Hollie Dyer (Jeff Dyer) of the St Clair Community; three grandsons, James Qualls of the St Clair Community, Jonathon “Jon” Qualls of Asheville, N.C., and Jamie Dyer of Temple Texas; four sisters, Sharon Fields, Linda (Tony) Bowers, Bobbie (Richard) Carter, all of Elizabethton, and Beverly (D H) Lowe of Mountain City; five brothers, Sonny (Helen) Slagle, Buck (Sharon) Slagle, Pete Slagle, Tom (Patsy) Slagle, Doug (Johnnie) Slagle, all of Elizabethton; one special cousin who is considered a sister, Patsy Trivett of Elizabethton; many friends and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, SC and Hollie Pope Slagle; two sisters, Vivian “Sissy” McMurray and Honey Slagle; one sister-in-law, Saundra Slagle; and one brother-in-law, Willie Fields.

Receiving of friends will be held on Wednesday, February 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.
