The Project Appleseed Ladies Only Rifle Marksmanship Clinic (Ladyseed) will be held on April 6 at Cherokee Rod and Gun Club at 4280 Reservoir Road, Kingsport.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. The clinic starts at 8:30 a.m. and will continue until 5 p.m.
Participants are taught fundamental rifle marksmanship skills that are to allow a riflewoman to be accurate out to 400 yards, with iron sights or a scope, a standard rifle and surplus ammo. Most of the instruction at a Project Appleseed event is conducted on the firing range at 25 yards, at reduced size targets to simulate 100 to 400 yards. Students will learn rifle shooting from the standing, sitting, kneeling, and prone positions, sight alignment, and breath control, along with safe rifle handling, proper use of a sling, and Revolutionary War history. Since this is a Ladyseed, most of the instruction will be done by female instructors.
The cost for this one-day Ladies Only rifle clinic is $60 for adults and $25 for youth under 18. There are also discounts for law enforcement, active and reserve military and guard and more. Additionally, there is a $10 per person range fee (range members and active military are exempt).
To reach the Cherokee Rod and Gun Club, from I-81, take exit 50 and go North on TN-93 N for 3.4 miles, turn left on Murrell Road and go 2.2 miles, turn left onto TN-347 W and go 0.5 miles, turn right onto Reservoir Road and go 0.5 miles. The range will be on the left.
