Doris Ann Cates, 68, a resident of Carter County, passed away after an extended illness on January 30, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Lonnie Dale Cates, and one great-grandson, Cody Alan Miller Jr.

She is survived by a daughter, Shenandoah Stout and special son-in-law, Jack; two brothers, Larry Deloach (Cathy) and John Deloach; her grandchildren, Calvyn Estep (Katie), Cali Reyes (Sebastian) and Jackson Stout; four great-grandchildren, Connor, Carson, Jackson and Destiny and baby Reyes due in August; one brother-in-law, Rick Cates (Jill); and three sisters-in-law, Bobbie Williams (Dennis), Juanita (Brent) Nidiffer and Joyce McWaters (Johnny). Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Doris lived in Carter County her entire life. She was retired and enjoyed helping her sister-in-law, Jill, with her firework business until her health declined. She was of the Baptist faith.

The family welcomes family and friends at Doris’s home any time. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for March 16 at Doe River Baptist Church. Receiving of friends will be from 3 until 4 p.m. with the service beginning at 4 p.m.
