Thanks to approval from the Elizabethton Beverage Board and City Council, JiggyPalooza is returning to downtown’s Bicentennial Breezeway after a three-year hiatus.

The new owners of Jiggy Ray’s, Savannah Markham and Benjamin Markham, gained approval for the 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, June 1, event during Thursday night’s meetings.

According to the permit application, JiggyPalooza will offer outdoor attractions, including regional acts on an outdoor stage, at the Bicentennial Breezeway next to the restaurant. A small area of the alley behind the restaurant will be blocked off for the stage setup and the sidewalk in front of the restaurant will be barricaded. In addition to live music, there will be food trucks, face painting, and games.

Council Member Michael Simerly asked how many food trucks would be on site, and restaurant co-owner Samantha Markham said “two or three.”

The application explains there will only be two entrances to the festival area. Regardless of age, each attendee will receive a wristband that allows access to the festival, as well as a soda, water, or juice and discounts from food trucks. Attendees with proof of being over the age 21 will receive a second color-coded wristband that includes one select beer. All staff checking IDs or serving/selling beer will have a valid ABC license and security and staff will be walking around throughout the festival checking wristbands and IDs as needed.

“A plan for crowd control, as well as security, has been set in place at no expense to the city,” the application states. “With the support of the local fire and police departments, we are hoping to make this a fun and safe event for everyone included. We hope that by hosting these festivals and events we can help make the city of Elizabethton a destination place for patrons to spend their time and money.”

The Beverage Board also approved permits for Ringway Inc., doing business as Tri City Wholesale Tobacco No. 8, 319 Broad St., Suite C; and The Bargain Barn Inc.
