June 6, 1935 – February 29, 2024

Mary Darlene Moore, 88, of Elizabethton, Tenn., peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 29, 2024. She was a beloved mother and grandmother, and her life was lived as a testimony of her love for the Lord and for others. 

Mary was born on June 6, 1935, to Guy D. “Jack” and Freda (Rasmussen) Denny in Tilden, Neb. She graduated from Tilden High School. After high school, she attended Crown College, formerly known as St. Paul Bible College, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Christian Education. On August 31, 1957, Mary married her beloved husband, Fred Moore of Rockford, Ill., and together they were the parents of two sons, David Moore of Muscoda, Wis., and Daniel Moore of Elizabethton, Tenn.

During their marriage of nearly 65 years, Fred and Mary joyfully served the Lord together. With Mary’s faithful support, Fred pastored churches for over 45 years in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Nebraska. Mary was active in children’s ministry, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for over 60 years. In 2001, Fred and Mary retired and moved to Elizabethton, Tenn. Mary was a member of Johnson City Alliance Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years after retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Fred, and her brothers, Johnny, Loren, and Paul Denny.

Those left to cherish her precious memory include her brother, Dan Denny; her sons, David (Stephanie) and Daniel (Melanie); her grandsons, Caleb, Isaac, Jonathan, and Jeremiah; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary will always be remembered for her sweet, gentle nature, endless generosity, love for others, and baking the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at Johnson City Alliance Church, 2837 Boones Creek Rd, Johnson City, TN 37615.
