May 18th will be a day Wes Holly Jr., makes Carter County’s sporting history. It will be the day when Wes Holly Jr., a name synonymous with excellence in athletics, will be inducted into the esteemed Carter County Sports Hall of Fame at Milligan University.

Wes has always been drawn to the allure of sports, a passion ignited during his formative years at Unaka High. A natural athlete, he excelled in baseball, football, basketball, and track, leaving an indelible mark on the Rangers’ sports legacy. It was here that the seeds of greatness were sown, laying the foundation for a future adorned with accolades.

His journey continued into college, where he proudly donned the colors of Tusculum, showcasing his skillfulness on the basketball court and baseball diamond. It was during this time that Wes forged bonds that would shape his destiny, earning a degree from Milligan in 2004, marking the beginning of a remarkable odyssey.

Venturing into coaching, Wes found his calling. From the hallowed grounds of Milligan to the grand stage of NCAA Division I, his coaching acumen garnered acclaim. During his tenure at Kennesaw State, he led the Lady Owls to unprecedented success.

But Wes’s journey wasn’t solely defined by his coaching exploits. A true maestro of the game, he transcended gender norms, carving a niche for himself in the realm of men’s fast-pitch softball. His versatility as a player earned him accolades aplenty, including the coveted gold glove recognition for his stellar play at shortstop.

Yet amidst the triumphs and accolades, Wes remained grounded, never forgetting his roots. His reverence for family, instilled by his father, and shared bonds forged with his sister and cousin, served as a guiding light throughout his journey.

From mentors and teammates to family and friends, each had played a pivotal role in his ascent to greatness.

A testament to years of dedication, perseverance, and unwavering passion for the game.  Wes Holly Jr. cemented his legacy as a champion, forever enshrined in the Carter County sports history.
