The Carter County Republican Party is excited to welcome Congresswoman Dr. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., as the keynote speaker for the 2024 Reagan Day Dinner.

“Throughout her tenure in Congress, Congresswoman Foxx has been a champion of conservative values and a staunch supporter of the Republican ideals of reducing spending while increasing government accountability,” said CCRP Chairwoman Abby Morris-Frye. “We are pleased to be able to host the Congresswoman as our speaker and we look forward to hearing her message.”

Congresswoman Foxx represents North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District, which encompasses much of the northwestern portion of the state, including most of the city of Winston-Salem. Congresswoman Foxx currently serves as the Chairwoman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, is a member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, and a former Secretary of the House Republican Conference. Congresswoman Foxx is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received her A.B. degree in English and M.A.C.T. in Sociology. She earned her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Teaching/Higher Education from UNC-Greensboro.

Before serving her constituents in Washington D.C., Dr. Foxx spent 10 years in the North Carolina Senate where she successfully sponsored several statewide and local bills and consistently voted against tax increases and for legislation that would make governments more efficient.

“Prior to her election to Congress, Dr. Foxx dedicated her life to education and preparing future generations for the workforce,” said Morris-Frye. “While serving in the legislature, she has continued to support education initiatives and has led efforts to modernize and reform the nation’s workforce development system.”

“Congresswoman Foxx was raised in Avery County, N.C., just across the border from Carter County, so she knows how important educational opportunities and workforce development initiatives are for small rural communities like ours,” Morris-Frye added.

The annual Reagan Day Dinner will take place this year on Saturday, May 11, at Milligan University. The reception will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner following at 6 p.m. Tickets for the event are $60.
