Christina Bowers Lewis, a titan of softball in Carter County, is set to be honored with induction into the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame at Milligan University on May 18th.

Lewis, known for her remarkable career spanning from her days at Unaka High School to her collegiate stint at Milligan, left an indelible mark on the sport with her skillfulness and achievements.

During her tenure at Unaka High School from 1986 to 1989, Lewis amassed a string of accolades that showcased her talent and dedication to the game. She was a three-time All-Smoky Mountain Conference selection, culminating in being named CO-MVP in 1989. Lewis also garnered recognition as the Three-time All-District 1-A tournament MVP and earned distinctions such as the Pepsi Cola Invitational all-tournament award and the McDonald’s/Coca-Cola District 1-A Player of the Year. Her exceptional performance on the field earned her the prestigious Joe E. Taylor Memorial Award and the Ray O. and Lula M. Arnett Award.

In her senior year at Unaka, Lewis demonstrated her dominance as she started every game, finishing with a remarkable 24-5 record. She maintained an impressive 1.82 earned-run average over 142 innings and tallied 144 strikeouts against 34 walks, solidifying her reputation as one of the most formidable pitchers in the region.

Lewis continued to shine in college, where she showcased her talent for Milligan College from 1990 to 1991. Over her two-year career, she amassed a 23-16 record, further solidifying her status as a standout player. As a freshman, Lewis posted an 11-8 record, highlighted by memorable one-hit shutouts against formidable opponents like Spartanburg Methodist and Mars Hall. Her sophomore year saw her excel with a 12-8 record, including a notable complete-game victory over Ivy League school Brown University.

Lewis’s induction ceremony, scheduled for May 18th at Milligan University, promises to be a celebration of her extraordinary contributions to softball and her lasting impact on the Carter County sports community.
