Contractors with the Cherokee National Forest, Unaka Ranger District, are now repairing an area shooting range damaged in a 2020 flood.

The Scioto Rifle Range on National Forest Road 5357 is closed for worker safety until crews finish repairs to the range east of Unicoi. The work to be done consists of the removal and installation of articulated concrete blocks.

Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) funds from a flooding event in 2020 will be used for these repairs. The ERFO Program was established to assist federal agencies with the repair or reconstruction of tribal transportation facilities, federal lands transportation facilities, and other federally owned roads that are open to public travel, which are found to have suffered serious damage by a natural disaster over a wide area or by a catastrophic failure.
