The Tennessee Sheriff’s Association and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office are warning residents about a telephone scam claiming to be collecting money for the TSA.

On Friday, the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association alerted sheriff’s departments across the state to the reported scam in an email.

“The Tennessee Sheriff’s Association has been notified of a phone scam currently going on in our name,” the TSA Board stated in an email to county sheriffs. “While it is a renewal period for the association and you may have received a mailing, TSA will never call to solicit funds.”

Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley said his office has also received a call from a local resident concerned they may have received a scam phone call from someone claiming to be the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association.

Both Sheriff Fraley and the TSA Board recommend that if residents feel the call may be a scam to hang up and they can contact the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association directly at 615-547-0277. Anyone who receives such a spam call is encouraged to report it to their local law enforcement agency.
