Cyclone track team faces stiff competition at Vol Classic

Facing a strong field of 70 teams from across the country, the Elizabethton High School track team aimed to excel in various events at the Vol Classic in Knoxville.

Three athletes achieved top-five finishes in their respective events, with several others reaching personal bests.

Head coach Matthew Campbell shared that the team faced challenges at the start but demonstrated resilience as the meet progressed.

“We started out roughly in the rain and cold,” said Campbell. “As the day warmed up, we started to see some positives with multiple PRs.”

Liahna Nave’s throw of 119-4.5 in the discus earned her a third-place finish in the girls’ event. Jamira Smalls’ throw of 33-3 at the shot put pit secured fifth place for her.

On the boys’ side, Jeremiah Norris clocked a time of 50.89 to clinch fifth place in the 400-meter dash, marking a season best for Norris.

  • Zion Reddick – shot put: 50-1
  • Landry Buckles – shot put: 49-1
