The Elizabethton Police Department extends a warm welcome to all participants gearing up for the Third Annual Music and Miles Half Marathon this Saturday morning. As the city prepares for this exciting event, motorists in Elizabethton, particularly those near the race route and in the Downtown area, are urged to exercise extra care and caution.

City Police officers, Street, Parks, and Fire Department employees, alongside numerous race volunteers, will be stationed at intersections along the race route to ensure the safety of all participants. The 13.1-mile foot race, commencing and culminating on Third Street at the Covered Bridge Park, traverses across town from 19E to Hatcher Lane and onto the Tweetsie Trail, reaching the turnaround point just before Mary Patton Highway.

To facilitate the smooth flow of the race and guarantee participant safety, several intersections without traffic signals will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic, with barricades set up at Legacy Drive at West G and Forsyth, Ward Street at West G and West Elk, Parkway Boulevard from West Elk to West G, and Holly Lane at West Elk to Lee Avenue.

Moreover, while the racecourse encompasses sections of the Tweetsie Trail and some open streets, runners are advised to remain alert for vehicles, particularly in the neighborhood streets around TA Dugger, Elizabethton High School, West Side Elementary, and along Hattie Avenue downtown. Participants are encouraged to utilize sidewalks or stay to the left of the street in these areas.
