Annual Elizabethton Memorial Day Ceremony scheduled for Monday, May 27

The Veterans Oversight Committee announced on Wednesday that the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Elizabethton-Carter County Veterans War Memorial will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27.
Carter County has seen 258 total men and women who have sacrificially given their life to defend the rights and freedom of the United States of America including their family and friends in Carter County.
The breakdown of the fallen in each combat is as follows:
World War I – 49
World War II – 155
Korean War – 20
Vietnam Conflict – 30
Desert Storm – 2
Enduring Freedom – 1
Veterans and their families along with young children and grandchildren are encouraged to come to the ceremony and pay homage to those who gave all for their country.
The ceremony will have an array of speakers and presenters including the reading of the names of soldiers killed in action from Carter County by Boy Scouts of America Troop 516.
A POW-MIA remembrance ceremony will be part of the program as well.
Members of the Oversight Committee include: Michael Barnett, Bill Carter, Tom Hitchcock, Rick Walters, and Andy Wetzel.
