Dottie McCloud Colley, 82, of Durham, N.C., passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Dottie was born in Watauga, Tenn., a daughter of the late Elbert T. McCloud and Virginia Bare McCloud. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, William L. Colley Sr.

Dottie had a wonderful work ethic and had worked at Hawk Industries, at the Bonnie Brae House and at the Omni Hotel and Civic Center in Durham, N.C., as well as in Greenwood, S.C., at the Box Office at the Civic Center and at Parkwood Nursery as a bookkeeper. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Life Spring Church. She enjoyed reading.  

Those left to cherish and remember Dottie include her son, Billy Colley and wife Kim of Durham, N.C.; her daughter, Debra Jean Colley Crocker and husband Steve of Easley, S.C.; her granddaughters, Lindsay Leslie, Ashley Rocklein and husband David, all of Easley, S.C., and Morgan Colley of Elizabethton, Tenn.; her great-granddaughters, Emily Leslie, Lauren Leslie and Macy Rocklein, all of Easley, S.C.; and her sisters, Lee Lowe and husband Jim of Johnson City, Tenn., and Lou Lawson and husband Dave of Bluff City, Tenn. Several aunts, nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration graveside service for Mrs. Dottie McCloud Colley will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section – 53 Memorial Boulevard, Mountain Home, TN 37684) with Chaplain Mark Holland officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. Those who prefer memorials may make donations in memory of Dottie to Duke Home Care and Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Connie, Teresa and Desiree for their love and support shown to Dottie and the family during her illness.
