The Summer Swim League has kicked off its summer swim season, which will run through July 27, 2024. It is open to anyone who can swim one length of the pool at Elizabethton High School. The practice schedule will be Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Competitive meet nights will be held on Tuesdays.
Girls will need to wear one-piece competition-style bathing suits, while boys will need jammer or brief-style bathing suits. All swimmers are encouraged to furnish their own goggles, and swim caps will be available for purchase for $3. The cost for the swim season will be $165. One goal of the program is to get younger kids involved in swimming and to develop a love for the sport.
Program Director and head EHS/T.A. Dugger swim coach Kelli Broussard spoke about the purpose and scope of the Typhoons Swim Club. “This is a recreational program that I hope can help keep kids out of trouble with their time management skills they have learned during the school year. The other function of this program is to serve as a feeder program for Elizabethton’s high school and junior high teams. This really is designed for fun and for beginning swimmers to be introduced to the sport,” Broussard said. There will be a total of six meets, three in Elizabethton and three on the road, culminating in a championship meet on July 27 at the Kingsport Aquatics Center.
