 JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University Athletic Director Dr. Richard Sander announced on Wednesday that Jake Amos has accepted the men’s golf head coaching position at LSU. 

 “Coach Amos did an incredible job taking a top-notch program that Coach (Fred) Warren had built and elevated it to even greater heights,” said Dr. Sander. “It’s incredible the success that ETSU men’s golf has achieved under Jake’s tutelage. Four straight years of advancing to the NCAA national championship round is remarkable and this year making the cut is icing on the cake.  Under Coach Amos, lofty national rankings became the norm with a high of No. 8 this year. His ability to recruit quality golfers, while developing and motivating them both as people and athletes, speaks to his quality as one of the best coaches in the country. On behalf of President Dr. Brian Noland and the entire ETSU family, I want to say thank you for all your great work.”

 Amos was part of the ETSU men’s golf program the last six years – the last five as the Buccaneers head coach. During this run, the Bucs have played in the last four NCAA Championships – only one of nine Division I programs to accomplish the feat – and captured four consecutive Southern Conference Championships. The three-time SoCon Coach of the Year won 12 tournaments during his time as the leader of the Buccaneer program. ETSU was ranked as high as No. 8 in the country this 2023-24 season, while the Bucs have registered nine top-five finishes in 13 tournaments played. The Bucs’ 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championship marked ETSU’s best showing since 2001. Amos is a two-time finalist for the Dave Williams Award, which is given to the national coach of the year in NCAA Division I men’s golf. 

 Mike Hulbert will act as ETSU’s interim head coach.
