Mable “June” Henson, 83, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Mitchell County, N.C., to the late George and Ruth Sheets.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Henson; brother, Donald Sheets; two sisters, Sue Sheets Thompson and Anne Mae Greene; an infant half-brother, Wayne; and son-in-law, Michael Taylor.

June was a member of Burbank Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to yard sales and spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Ruthie Taylor of Elizabethton; two sons, Wesley (DeEtta) Henson of Hampton and Scott Henson, of the home; sister, Nadine Sheets of Johnson City; four special grandchildren, Michael Henson and Brady Henson of Hampton, Michaela Taylor of Elizabethton and Sarah Henson of Hampton; special friends, Kay Hogan and Tami Shell Hughes; all her church family; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of June will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Burbank Freewill Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Randy English, Pastor Travis Tyler, Pastor Israel Hughes, Pastor Geren Street and Pastor Tony Trott officiating. The family will receive friends at the church between the hours of 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will follow in the Barlow Family Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are the maintenance staff at Roan Mountain State Park and Deacons at Burbank Freewill Baptist Church and Cove Creek Community Church. The family would like to give a special thanks to the entire staff at Johnson City Medical Center and Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to The Alzheimer’s Association, 3550 S. Clark Street, Suite 203, Arlington, VA 22202.
