To the Editor:

My wife and I moved here 16 months ago from Wythe County, Va., to be near our daughter, her husband and our seven grandkids.

In Virginia where we lived, I occasionally heard the comment: “Thanks for your service.”

In Elizabethton, I hear it many times a day. No, I don’t get tired of hearing it. It tells me I live in a town of patriots.

From a 78-year old Vietnam veteran, I say “thank you for caring.” This has been a great way to welcome me and my family.
