The Elizabethton budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year was approved on second reading by the City Council during a called meeting Friday afternoon.
There was no discussion about the budget, which needed two attempts at a first reading to pass.
The main area of contention surrounding the budget had been funding for Carter County Tomorrow.
Councilman Bob Cable had requested that all funding for the agency be removed from the budget.
“I just don’t see any results,” Cable said during the regular council meeting on June 12. “I am not saying they aren’t going out there to get anything. I just believe there is nothing out there to get.”
Cable said the $90,000 budgeted for CCT “could be spent anywhere else in the city.”
Cable’s motion to remove that funding failed for lack of support, but the budget was amended to increase the funding for the Carter County Rescue Squad from $2,500 to $20,000.
The amended budget passed during the called meeting on a 6-1 vote, with Cable voting against it.
The budget included no property tax increase, and the tax rate will remain at $1.82 per $100 of assessed value.
The budget includes $16.16 million for the General Fund; $56.8 million for the Electric Fund; and $10.2 million for the Water and Sewer Fund.
The Elizabethton City School’s general purpose fund budget unanimously passed on second reading.
